First State Inter-collegiate Tennis Championship held in Panjim

QUICK BITE - Don Bosco College, Panjim and St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim in collaboration with the Goa State Tennis Association under the aegis of the ACDOPEG organised the First State Inter-collegiate Tennis Championship for men and women on 23 and 24 May, 2022 at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar.


Don Bosco College, Panjim and St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim in collaboration with the Goa State Tennis Association under the aegis of the ACDOPEG organised the First State Inter-collegiate Tennis Championship for men and women on 23 and 24 May, 2022 at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar. The tournament received enthusiastic participation from ten colleges from across the state. A knock-out system was used for the tournament.
Every college put up a tough fight to move to the next round in the knock-out tournament. In the first men’s semi-finals, Dhempe College was too strong for a hardworking Shree Mallikarjun team defeating them 2-1 to enter the finals. The second semi final saw a tough fight with Government College, Quepem edging Damodar 2-1. In a nail-biting final between Dhempe College, Miramar and Government College, Quepem, Dhempe College used their experience defeating a spirited GCQ team with 2-1.


The girls championship also saw some tough competition and exceptional skill on the court. It was some good precision that led Don Bosco College, Panjim, to secure the first place with Government College, Quepem emerging as the runners up of the event.
The Player of the Tournament was awarded to Mr Tejas Shevde from Dhempe College, Miramar. Director of Don Bosco College, Panjim, Fr Joaquim Lobo, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. Other guests present were Dr Rajan Mathew, Director of Physical Education and Sports of Government College, Quepem, Mr Pandurang Naik, College Director of Physical Education and Sports of Dhempe College, Miramar, Mr Infancio Correa, Assistant Teacher in Physical Education at SJVIE and Mr Santosh Tennis who represented the Goa State Tennis Association. Dr Elroy Pinto of St Joseph Vaz College welcomed everyone for the prize distribution ceremony and gave a brief report of the tournament while Dr Ajith Gopi proposed the vote of thanks.
