Students of Don Bosco College explore the treasures of Goa’s heritage

QUICK BITE - Collaborating with the Heritage Club of the college along with the students of SY Travel and Tourism, a walk through the ‘Heritage trails of Panaji’ was organised on 13th March to learn about the culture, legacy and history left behind by the Portuguese rulers.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said, " A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.''

It came as a shock when the students of FY and SY Mass Communication realized how little they knew about Goa’s culture. Picking up on this, they decided to explore and experience the culture and heritage of the Latin quarters of Panaji.

Collaborating with the Heritage Club of the college along with the students of SY Travel and Tourism, a walk through the ‘Heritage trails of Panaji’ was organised on 13th March to learn about the culture, legacy and history left behind by the Portuguese rulers. The walk began from the footbridge near the Rua de Ourem creek and traversed through the lanes of Fontainhas highlighting the ancestral houses, Gitanjali museum, St. Sebastian Chapel, and the wishing well before moving ahead to learn more about the history of the court area.

The Mass Communication students guided the entire group and took them to the Portuguese Consulate, from where they climbed the steps that led to an ancestral house, restored and converted into an arthouse café cum museum known as Sunaparanta and famous for the well-known Cafe Bodega. The last spot for the day was the Archbishop’s Palace in Altinho.

Every place highlighted in the walk had its own story to tell. The students of SY Travel and Tourism took up the task of explaining the history that surrounded each place – from the architecture, the heritage and traditions followed. Everyone present was excited to learn about the rich history that forms part of our heritage and happily retired after the informative walk.
