Sports Tournament Held In Memory Of Late Aalok Shirodkar

QUICK BITE - The Department of Physical Education, Don Bosco College, Panjim, organized a two-day Racquet Sports tournament for faculty of educational institutions across Goa in memory of late Aalok Shirodkar, ex-student and faculty of the department.


The Department of Physical Education, Don Bosco College, Panjim, organized a two-day Racquet Sports tournament for faculty of educational institutions across Goa in memory of late Aalok Shirodkar, ex-student and faculty of the department.

The tournament consisted of 3 racquet sports - Badminton, Table Tennis and Tennis. Staff members from various institutions put their sporting feet forward and participated with great enthusiasm, each vying for the medals, trophies and certificates that were to be handed out to individual and overall winners.

For the opening ceremony, Principal of Don Bosco College, Dr. Cedric Silveira and the Guest of Honour, Dr. Jayesh Churi, Secretary of ACDOPEG and Director of Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management, Mapusa, welcomed the participants. The two-day event saw excellent participation from institutions across the state. The closing ceremony saw the parents of Late Aalok Shirodkar, Mr. Pradip Shirodkar and Mrs. Suchita Shirodkar present as guests for the event. College Director, Fr. Joaquim Lobo, Principal Dr. Cedric Silveira and IQAC Head, Mr. Ajith Gopi were the other esteemed guests present on the dais.


A short video comprising memories of Late Aalok during his tenure at the college was shown to the audience. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to M.E.S College, Zuarinagar, GVM’s College, Ponda, and Vidya Prabhodhini College, Porvorim, for jointly securing the third place while Goa Medical College, Bambolim stole the second place. The overall trophy of the two-day sporting event was bagged by Vidya Vikas Mandal, Margao, after their team took away a Gold medal in Table Tennis and two Silver medals in Tennis and Badminton.

Alisha Souza completed her Master’s Degree at Goa University in English literature. She obtained the Advanced Certificate of Achievement in English Language Proficiency by the British Council and has contributed to various magazines as well as the college newsletter.
