Club Cadenza of Don Bosco College, Panjim, organized an enriching workshop titled “The Fundamentals of Songwriting and Musical Expression” on 12th March 2026 at the Bicentenary Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The initiative aimed to introduce students to the art and discipline of songwriting while encouraging them to explore music as a powerful medium of creative expression.
The programme began with the welcoming of the dignitaries, followed by an inspiring address by the Principal, Prof. Teotone Vaz, who encouraged students to nurture their artistic sensibilities and pursue their creative interests with confidence.

The session was conducted by Mr. Roque Lazarus, a distinguished musician, composer, and songwriter. Through an engaging and insightful presentation, he introduced students to the fundamental elements of songwriting. Drawing from his rich musical journey, he emphasized the importance of imagination, discipline, and consistent practice in shaping one’s musical path.
The workshop stood out for its highly interactive format. Mr. Lazarus encouraged students to collaboratively compose a song, guiding them in writing lyrics while also introducing them to the process of adding musical notes and chords. In a remarkable demonstration, he taught a student to play a simple guitar progression within a minute, showcasing how accessible music-making can be with the right guidance. Other students enthusiastically participated by playing the xylophone, creating a vibrant and collaborative musical atmosphere.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Andrea D’souza, Convenor of Club Cadenza. The principal presented a token of appreciation to the speaker. The workshop proved to be a stimulating and memorable experience, inspiring students to explore songwriting and musical creativity with renewed enthusiasm and confidence.
