The Department of English, in collaboration with the Cultural and Literary Committee of Don Bosco College, Panjim, launched Beyond the Classroom: Exploring Careers with English, a monthly career series designed to introduce students to the diverse career opportunities available to graduates of English Language and Literature.
The inaugural session of the series was held on 31 July 2026 in the college bicentenary hall and featured Mr. Alroy Fernandes as the resource person. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, Prof. Teotone Vaz, followed by an introduction to the speaker by Ms. Alisha Souza, Department Coordinator.


Addressing 36 students, Mr. Alroy Fernandes encouraged participants to explore career paths beyond the conventional options associated with English studies. He highlighted the importance of effective communication, maintaining realistic expectations of the job market, and exploring the wide range of opportunities available to English graduates. Drawing on his professional experience, he also discussed strategies for strengthening public speaking skills.
The session was highly interactive, with students enthusiastically participating in an activity that challenged them to pitch a product for sale. Through this exercise, the speaker shared practical tips on building confidence and proactively creating prospects by putting oneself out there.


The event was coordinated by Ms. Chelsea Azavedo from the Department of English, who proposed the vote of thanks and encouraged students to make the most of the upcoming sessions in the series. The inaugural programme successfully introduced students to non-traditional career opportunities in English, inspiring them to broaden their perspectives on the possibilities offered by the discipline.
