Net Winners: Highlights from DBC's Interclass Badminton Tournament

QUICK BITE - The Interclass Badminton Tournament, hosted by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the Wellness Club at Don Bosco College Panjim on July 10 and 11, 2024, showcased spirited competition across various categories. TYBCA emerged victorious.

The Interclass Badminton Tournament, organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the Wellness Club of Don Bosco College Panjim, was held on July 10 and 11, 2024, at the college's indoor badminton courts. The event aimed to promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, and fellowship among students across various classes and departments.
The tournament followed a knockout format. Each team consisted of 3 men and 1 woman. The matches were divided into five categories: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Women’s Doubles. The matches were closely contested, showcasing the skills and agility of the participants.

After intense matches throughout the day, FYBBA outperformed their seniors SYBBA to be the first to qualify for the finals. TYBCA also advanced to the finals after successfully resisting a strong effort by SYBCOM. In the finals, Gokul Lekhawar and Farhana Khan of TYBCA won their respective singles matches, giving their team a 2-0 lead. They then proceeded together to clinch the match with a 3-0 score by winning the Mixed Doubles, taking the Champions’ Trophy to their jubilant classmates.
The winners and runners-up were awarded certificates and trophies at the tournament’s concluding ceremony in the presence of the Principal, Dr Cedric Silveira, and the Director, Fr Joachim Lobo. Both dignitaries handed over the awards to the winners, acknowledging the efforts and skills demonstrated by all participants. The Best Player (Female) Award was bagged by Farhana Khan of TYBCA and Janhavi of FYBCA-A. Gokul Lekhawar of TYBCA won the Best Player (Male) of the Tournament.

The Interclass Badminton Tournament was a resounding success, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship among the students. It not only provided a platform for students to showcase their sporting talents but also promoted the importance of physical fitness and well-being.
