The Department of Business Administration, Don Bosco College Panjim in association with ICFAI Business School, Bangalore organised a session for the final year students on Thursday, 25 July 2024. The session was on the topic ‘Campus to Corporate: Enhancing Employability among Management Students’. The faculty members present for the session included the coordinator of the BBA department, Dr Cedric Silveira and the faculty incharge Asst. Prof. Valerie Carvalho.
The session began with an introduction to the resource person, Mr. Sandip Gorai, Regional Manager of the IBS group. Mr. Gorai spoke about the intense competition in the industry and shed light on the high number of applicants and their reasons for not being recruited. Highlighting the major skills that companies look for, he said that practising these skills such as persuasion, communication, time management etc; from now would help in mastering them while preparing for interviews in the future.
Mr Sandip Gorai explained the differences between a student’s life and an employee’s life at a corporate job with the highlight of the conversation being that students only put maximum efforts around their exams to score well, whereas an employee has to put forth his maximum efforts each day at work to achieve an increment or elevation in their work life.
The second half of the session focused mainly on the workings of the industry. Highlighting a few skills, he explained that any industry would consider freshers with a good work attitude, excellent communication and listening skills, a team player and someone with the ability to learn and unlearn to grow effectively and achieve the company’s goal and self-goals. Mr Sandip Gorai stated that students can meet expectations of the industries by going the extra mile and attending workshops, signing up for online certifications, focusing on practical learning and seeking feedback.
The students engaged in a lively discussion on preparing SWOT analysis for themselves. Mr Gorai further highlighted the tips for interviews, how to prepare for interviews and general questions that might be asked during the interviews. Creating a good first impression was emphasised, along with other factors such as leadership development, time management, enhancing self-confidence, professional grooming and mastering communication skills. He shed light on the integral aspects that students can imbibe including discipline, patience, maintaining a ‘we’ approach and letting go of their ego to bring about changes in their future. The session was very well received by the students.
