On 15th March, the students of the FYBBA (travel & tourism) at Don Bosco College, Panjim, attended a session titled ‘Exploring the Off-Beat Scene of Goa’ by Royston Braganza, a well-known expert and travel enthusiast associated with Soul Travelling, Panjim. Mr Royston is currently a part of the learning and development and trainings team at Soul Travelling and conducted an engaging and informative session that introduced students to the unique and lesser-explored facets of Goa. The speaker began the session by highlighting the conventional image of Goa and a tourist-centric economy. He then shifted the focus to the off-beat side of Goa, which many tourists and even locals often overlook and emphasized the importance of promoting these hidden gems to diversify the tourism industry and create a more sustainable and authentic travel experience.
Mr Royston spoke about the village life, exploring the rural aspects of Goa and an insight into traditional Goan culture, farming practices and local cuisine. He stressed on cultural immersion, Goa’s art and creative scene like kavi art and the various ancient traditions of Goa.
Students were encouraged to think innovatively and explore how they can contribute to promoting Goa’s off-beat experiences through their studies and careers in tourism and travel.
The session was not only informative but also thought-provoking, inspiring students to look beyond the traditional tourist hotspots and embrace the deeper, more nuanced aspects of Goa's culture and heritage. Royston Braganza's passion for promoting sustainable and responsible tourism was evident and his insights into the off-beat tourism scene gave the students a fresh perspective on the potential of Goa as a diverse and dynamic tourist destination.
This session was a collaborative effort of the Department of Business Administration (Travel & tourism) and Soul Travelling, Panjim which successfully bridged the gap between academic theory and real-world application in the tourism industry.
