DBC's Filmatics, a film club of Don Bosco College, Panjim, recently had its launch on 13 September 2023. The event took place in the college AV hall which was aesthetically decorated by the students with popcorns, film reels and focus lights matching the filmy vibe of the day. Producer, Rajesh R Pednekar and Director, Sainath Uskaikar of the film 'Wagro,' shortlisted for the Cannes Film Festival (2022), were the chief guests for the event. The inaugural began with a fervent speech by the club in charge Asst. Prof. Sonika Lotlikar. The chief guests were then introduced by the Filmatics and given a memento as a token of appreciation. While addressing the gathering, the chief guests encouraged the students to follow their passion for filmmaking.
With a flimsy countdown of 1, 2, 3... lights, camera and action! The club logo of Filmatics was unveiled and the club council was then formed to guide and inspire the young film lovers. Keshvino Pires, Devonna Gomes, Joel Rodrigues and Mario Pimenta were appointed as the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Media-coordinator respectively. The Creative Star of the month award was also a surprise bestowed upon the students who put in their hard work and effort in their contribution for the club. Siya Chodankar, Prachi Shirodkar, Saisma Naik, Danika D'Sa, Pratik Kerkar and Aaron Morais emerged as the Creative Stars of the month.
Following this, the students had an interactive session with the chief guests: Mr. Rajesh R Pednekar and Mr.Sainath Uskaikar , who both shared their experiences in terms of film direction, production, screenplay, etc. They gave valuable advice along with tips and tricks to the students for their endeavors in the world of cinema. The students eagerly asked several questions to the guests about their movies, their journey and how they make a film a great success.The club Vice President, Ms. Devonna Gomes delivered the vote of thanks. On and on, the inaugural was like a grand start of a blockbuster movie, with a houseful audience of 50 students of the film club, DBC's Filmatics.
