Don Bosco College Hosts Talk on Prevention of Ragging

QUICK BITE - Don Bosco College, Panjim, organised a talk on ‘Prevention of Ragging’. Resource person Advocate Clinton Rebello, covered the definition of ragging, highlighting that it includes physical, mental and verbal abuse.


Don Bosco College, Panjim, organised a talk on ‘Prevention of Ragging’ on July 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. Resource person for the talk was Advocate Clinton Rebello, a legal expert known for his commitment to safe learning environments.
In his address, Mr Rebello covered the definition of ragging, highlighting that it includes physical, mental and verbal abuse. The importance of UGC regulations in preventing ragging and establishing anti-ragging committees within institutions was emphasised.


Mr Rebello stressed on the seriousness of ragging, outlining potential punishments like fines, suspension, expulsion and even legal action. The talk delved into the negative impact of ragging on students' mental well-being, including anxiety, depression and even suicidal tendencies.
The importance of reporting ragging incidents, supporting victims and fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity were also touched upon.


Principal of the college, Dr Cedric Silveira expressed his appreciation of the informative session. Members of the Prevention of Ragging Committee, namely, Assistant Professors, Palash Raikar and Shareen Alphonso organised a poster-making session on the topic ‘Anti-Ragging’. Winners of the same were second-year BAMCJ students Lynelle Ferrao and Herman Noronha.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to the winners of a poster-making competition and a vote of thanks.
