On February 4, 2025, Pixels Club in collaboration with the Cinemaniacs Club organised a two-day DSLR Workshop at Don Bosco College, Panjim. It aimed at enhancing students' skills in photography and cinematography. The event, which was a mix of theoretical insights and hands-on practice, featured two esteemed guest speakers: Mr Harshishya Bhandari, a wedding cinematographer and travel vlogger, and Mr Anuj Prahbudesai, a professional photographer.
The first session was led by Mr Harshishya Bhandari, who commenced the workshop with a discussion on the foundational aspects of photography and cinematography which included composition, lighting, and camera techniques. Drawing from his vast experience in both the wedding and travel vlogging industries, Mr Bhandari shared practical insights into how photographers should approach their subjects and scenes. He also touched upon the importance of understanding light and composition to create aesthetically pleasing photographs. He emphasised the technical skills needed to balance exposure and focus, and how every shot, regardless of the subject, requires careful thought and planning. Additionally, he also demonstrated different types of cameras and lenses, explaining their specific use.
In the second session, Mr Bhandari explained various rules related to framing. The session also featured hands-on demonstrations, where students were given the opportunity to handle various DSLR cameras. Mr Prabhudesai walked them through the features of different models, explaining the functionality of each one and how to choose the right camera for different shooting conditions. This was followed by an interactive session where students were encouraged to apply the rules of photography which they were taught.
Mr Bhandari also introduced the students to the world of gimbals, which are essential tools for stable cinematography. He demonstrated how to set up and operate a gimbal, showcasing its use in both videography and photography. Students were then given the chance to handle the equipment themselves, trying their hand at using the gimbal to capture smooth and professional-quality footage.
The workshop concluded with a practical exercise for the students, who were tasked with taking a series of shots incorporating the techniques they had just learned. This DSLR Workshop was a great success, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in the art of photography and cinematography. The valuable insights shared by the guest speakers will undoubtedly inspire many aspiring photographers and filmmakers in the audience.
