Insightful talk on careers after BA English held

QUICK BITE - The Department of English at Don Bosco College, Panjim, organised an insightful talk on February 7, titled “Careers after BA English” for the FY and SY BA English students.


The Department of English at Don Bosco College, Panjim, organised an insightful talk on February 7, titled “Careers after BA English” for the FY and SY BA English students. The aim of the talk was to guide them on diverse career options available after graduation. The speaker for the session was Indian Journalist and Writer, Alexandre Moniz Barbosa.
The speaker emphasised the versatility of a BA English degree and discussed opportunities in fields such as content writing, publishing, journalism, creative writing, and teaching. He elaborated on roles in publishing houses, covering areas like editorial work, proofreading, and literary management, and highlighted how this sector values strong language skills and attention to detail.


Barbosa has worked as an editor for years and further explored the field by sharing insights from his professional experiences. Additionally, the speaker mentioned roles in government services, media, advertising, and corporate communication. Stressing the importance of skill development, the speaker advised students to enhance communication skills, reading habits, and digital literacy while seeking internships and building professional networks.
The talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session where students sought advice on fiction and non-fiction writing, the publishing process and career growth. Participants appreciated the session for its clarity and motivational insights, with many finding the emphasis on creative careers particularly useful.
The event was coordinated by the faculty of the department of English, Assistant professors Alisha Nicole Carvalho, Nasween Beig and Jyoti Pandey.
