The Department of Computer Applications of Don Bosco College, Panaji, in collaboration with the College Examination Committee and IQAC, organized a hands-on workshop titled “Mail Merge for Office Automation” on Saturday, 19 July 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the BAMCJ Lab. The session was facilitated by Assistant Professor Shreesha P J. A total of sixteen staff members participated in the workshop, including the Principal, administrative staff, accounts personnel, and teaching faculty.
The session commenced with an introduction to the concept and utility of Mail Merge in Microsoft Word. Participants were guided through a step-by-step demonstration on generating appointment orders using the Mail Merge Wizard, followed by hands-on practice at their respective systems. Subsequently, the session explored the Ribbon Interface Method for Mail Merge. Participants created a sample grade sheet, thereby reinforcing their understanding of data linkage and field insertion.
A special segment of the workshop focused on incorporating images in Mail Merge. Participants were introduced to the technique of dynamically merging pictures using the INCLUDEPICTURE field code.
To conclude the session, an application-oriented demonstration was conducted on generating participation certificates. A certificate template with a background image was auto-filled with participant names, illustrating how Mail Merge can be effectively adapted for large-scale document generation.
