A walk through the mangroves was organised by Club Ecotiva of Don Bosco College, Panjim, in collaboration with the One Earth Foundation and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to mark World Mangrove Day commemorated on 26 July 2025.
The walk commenced at the Rua de Ourem Creek, a site rich in urban mangrove ecosystems. Guided by Mr Ferdin Sylvester, co-founder of the One Earth Foundation, and accompanied by Ms Shraddha, IEC Coordinator, the students explored the biodiversity of the mangrove forest and learned about its critical role in coastal resilience, climate regulation and marine life support. Mr Ferdin highlighted the threats faced by mangroves due to urban encroachment, pollution and stressed the need for active conservation efforts.

Following the ecological exploration, students participated in a Heritage Walk through the charming bylanes and heritage precincts of Panjim led by members of Club Heritage. The walk took students through the historic Latin Quarter of Fontainhas and surrounding areas, showcasing Indo-Portuguese architecture, vibrant street art and culturally significant landmarks. Narratives on Panjim’s urban development, architectural history and socio-cultural evolution provided students with an enriching perspective on the city’s layered heritage.
Club Pixel played an active role in documenting the day’s events through photography and short video reels, capturing the engagement and enthusiasm of students. The event was conducted for the students of FYBAMC, SYBAMC, and FYBBA-TT, aiming to foster awareness about environmental conservation and heritage preservation.
