The pleasant mornings reflected the energy at Don Bosco College, Panjim, as students and participants came together to participate in the highly anticipated event ‘Cine-Mania’ which was organised by the Cinemaniacs film club. The event consisted of three different competitions spanning over two days, March 31 and April 1, 2022, and was spearheaded by Asst Prof Agnelo D’Souza along with student coordinators, Mrunalini Pai & Ralina Soares.

The event started with a good few words by the Director of the college, Fr Joaquim Lobo who encouraged students to never stop learning and participating in such events and competitions. The preliminary rounds for the ‘Movie Quiz’ and a treasure hunt dubbed ‘Blockbuster Hunt’ were held prior to the event and the qualified contestants were announced in front of the audience who cheered them up for the next rounds.
The ‘Movie Quiz’ consisted of 8 qualified teams who then competed against each other in several rounds with witty and straightforward questions posed by the quizmasters - Aryavrat Malhotra and Shreeya Kudchadkar. Four rounds of Bollywood and Hollywood-related questions were thrown at the participants, consisting of trivia questions, audio-visual questions, Pictionary, and guessing the movie titles by their synonyms.

The ‘Blockbuster Hunt’ allowed students to work creatively to connect movie-related hints to places all around the campus in search of the ‘treasure.’ The sweaty but excited faces of the students dashing around the campus in the heat was a sight to see. The winners of the event, FY BBA (Travel & Tourism), were exhilarated when they finally did find the treasure.
The second day of the event began with the same amount of excitement, if not more. ‘Twist-e-Genre’ involved acting out a scene from any movie but with a twist! They would have to perform the scene in a different genre which would be given to them ten minutes prior to their performance. Everyone was extremely excited to see iconic scenes from movies presented in a totally new way. The classes performed their re-enactments of movies ranging from Lagaan to The Hunger Games. The audience cheered as comedic lines, fight scenes, and horror sequences were delivered to them. Students filled the hall with congratulatory cheers as TY BCA won third place, SY BCA second place, and FY BAMC first place.

After this fun and enjoyable competition, the much-anticipated finals of the Movie Quiz resumed. The tension of the looming victory was evident among the remaining four teams and knuckles were being cracked to get in form for the last few rounds. Badly explained plots, Charades, Rapid Fire, and Buzzer rounds had the players on the edge of their seats. The winners of the Movie Quiz were TY BAMC, followed by FY BAMC and SY BBA in second and third place respectively. As the results were being tallied, a quiz was held especially for the teachers. The students cheered and encouraged their teachers while the coordinator of the event, Asst Prof Agnelo D’Souza, quizzed them. Teachers, who were paired in teams of two, competed against each other and the winners were announced to be Asst Prof Glenda Mascarenhas and Asst Prof Nigel Barreto.
